New performance dimension in the packaging labeling

Wolfertschwenden - At the FachPack 2019 MULTIVAC presents a new generation of cross web labellers. In addition to improved performance and operating safety, the new models are also characterized by lower life cycle costs compared to previous solutions. Its future viability is ensured by the use of state-of-the-art communication standards such as IO-Link and EtherCAT. This enables, among other things, the implementation of additional sensors, for example for marking inspection or for predictive maintenance.

The control of the new cross-web labellers is process-controlled. Individual movements are superimposed as far as possible, resulting in an optimized and thus much faster labeling process. Servo drives on all axes as well as a nearly continuous operation of the longitudinal stroke additionally increase the cycle performance.

Higher performance, compact design
In addition, the labelers have installed the latest generation of donors, which, thanks to their sophisticated servomotors, contribute to higher performance. The use of servo drives also offers the advantage that no homing operations have to be carried out before the start of the labeling operation - set-up and changeover times are shortened and the labellers are ready for operation more quickly.

The robust design of the new generation of machines also contributes to an increase in cycle performance. For example, the longitudinal stroke axis is even more rigid than previously. As a result, the machines work much less vibration and travel distances can be covered in less time. The simplification of the structure with a smaller number of pulleys also facilitates and speeds up the label change and thus reduces downtime. In addition to these benefits, the more compact design also reduces space requirements.

Better usability, high efficiency
The new machine generation from MULTIVAC also sets standards in the market in terms of usability. The menu navigation has been optimized and provided with an integrated assistance function. The system only requires the input of the desired number of cycles - all relevant speed and acceleration parameters are then automatically adjusted. The Quick Control Panel is also integrated into the labeller's housing, which reduces the operator's travel.

The removal of the fan duct cover and the access to the slide plate sets are also simple, quick and tool-free. Necessary service work can therefore be carried out in a user-friendly and, above all, speedy manner. The reduction of effort and time increases the economic efficiency and has a positive effect on the life cycle costs.

Maximum security, high availability
Special attention was also given to safety in view of the high clock speeds. Constant monitoring of traversing speeds and torques ensures maximum process and operating safety, even at maximum output.

By deliberately minimizing potential disruptions, MULTIVAC has also significantly increased the reliability and availability of the labeling system. The reduction of moving parts contributes as well as an optimized cable management.

sustainability
The new cross-web labellers are already designed to meet the demands of tomorrow. State-of-the-art communication standards such as IO-Link and EtherCAT make it possible to equip the machines with the latest sensor technology, if required. Also, additional solutions for the marking inspection can be easily retrofitted, since the corresponding interfaces are integrated. Last but not least, the labellers are designed for predictive maintenance.

About MULTIVAC Marking & Inspection
MULTIVAC Marking & Inspection is one of the leading manufacturers of labeling systems and direct film printers. The company, which was formerly called MR Labeling Technology and was founded in Enger, Westphalia, in 1993, has been part of the MULTIVAC Group since 1972. The company's wide range of products extends from standard labeling and printing solutions to labeling systems that are individually developed. The spectrum is supplemented by inspection systems for weight control, foreign body detection as well as for optical labeling and packaging control. All of these devices can be integrated into holistic packaging solutions and are of great importance in fulfilling the regulations and legal requirements for the quality management of packaging lines.
