The German Packaging Award 2022 selects 38 winners

Schur Flexibles Germany GmbH won a prize for shrink bags. Shrink bags are also widely used in industrial packaging for sausage, meat and cheese. Especially when sharp-edged pieces of ham have to be packed, high demands are placed on the puncture resistance of the material and the barrier. Today, this task is mainly performed by multi-layer films that are difficult to recycle. Thanks to the three-dimensionally stretched polyolefin structures, the award-winner has managed to meet the high requirements with a recyclable PE structure that is only 55 µm thick and achieves high packing security even without the usual PA layers or PVDC barriers. The jury praised the approach that a recyclable solution was found for the mostly invisible but large quantities of industrial packaging used in food production. Source: German Packaging Institute e.
