The butchers' association is concerned about the renunciation of meat and sausages

A request from the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag brought it to light again: In the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food (BMEL), there is no longer any meat or sausage when it comes to hospitality. As the German Butchers' Association is now emphasizing, companies in the butcher's trade are ready to close the gap that has arisen in balanced nutrition with healthy, regional and sustainable products.

The Ministry justifies the ban on butchers with the fact that vegetarian food is becoming increasingly popular. The fact is, however, that even today the proportion of people who eat a meat-free diet is well below 10 percent. Once again, far fewer consumers do not eat animal-based foods at all.

That's a good thing, because foods of animal origin are important components of a healthy and balanced diet. However, as the Butchers' Association points out, you should check where the meat comes from. "The products should come from the region, come from good animal stocks and be processed by hand, then both are right: sustainability and healthy nutrition," emphasizes the President of the German Butchers' Association, Herbert Dohrmann. The butcher trade has been promoting a balanced diet for many years: “It is not important to eat as much of something as possible or nothing at all, but that there is a good mix on the plate. But the quality has to be right,” says Dohrmann.

The butchers' association is concerned about the complete ban on meat and sausages, which two other ministries have announced after the BMEL. This contradicts the reality of life for most people, including the guests and employees of the ministry. "That's why a ban from above is needed, because if people have the choice, they will always reach for meat because it is part of good nutrition," says Dohrmann. “We all want proper laws, but how can we do that without balanced and enjoyable food for MPs and ministerials? The artisan butchers are therefore ready all over Germany, including in Berlin, of course, to close the gap that has arisen with healthy and sustainable products.”
