Change Management: In change processes provide the people at the center

Many change projects were successful, companies would accompany professionally next to the content and the personal level. This opinion 95 percent of respondents in a survey of the research project "Chang Effect" which has the Mutaree GmbH carried out jointly with the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT. "Ignoring companies in change processes the human factor and thus the behavior and emotions of their employees, so fail the projects faster," explains Claudia Schmidt, Managing Director and Change expert of Mutaree GmbH.

The study shows: When it comes to changes, companies have to consider far more than just strategy, structure, processes and systems. Mutaree and Fraunhofer IPT therefore want to develop a standardized method for controlling change processes and a method for measuring effectiveness. "Our relevance survey shows that there is a need on the company side," confirms Claudia Schmidt.

For the study, Mutaree and Fraunhofer IPT evaluated a total of 274 questionnaires: 35 percent of the participants come from middle management levels, 26 percent work in top management, and 14 percent work in lower management.

There is a lack of standardized methods

56 percent of those surveyed believe that a lack of standard change procedures is a main reason why personal transitions are not supported. While almost all respondents assume that the success rate increases if the content-related and personal level are closely interlinked, 48 percent assume that personal transitions are not accompanied because the effectiveness of these measures cannot be proven.

Human success factor

The respondents cited a lack of awareness on the part of management, an underestimation of the importance of the topic, a lack of resources and high costs as further reasons for the lack of personal support. »The human factor is an important key to success, especially in change processes. If a company lacks a sure instinct on the personal level, the transformation often fails, which has perhaps already been successfully carried out in a similar form in other companies, ”summarizes Alexandra Ottong, project manager at Fraunhofer IPT.
