Handtmann is celebrating its 150th anniversary
Last weekend, the owner family of the Handtmann Group invited representatives from politics and business, banks and schools, managers and companions to the gala evening as well as the workforce to the anniversary celebration on the Biberach Gigelberg. Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann, one of the guests of honor of the evening, spoke of an extraordinary entrepreneurial achievement: “With around 4.300 employees and one billion euros in annual sales, the world market leader is a driver of prosperity and an economic factor in our country. The noise of the machines in the Handtmann factory halls is the sound of successful transformation.” Biberach's mayor Norbert Zeidler honored Thomas Handtmann's life's work and his immense contributions to the city of Biberach by awarding him honorary citizenship. As part of the celebrations, the symbolic handover of the keys for the family-run company to Markus Handtmann and Valentin Ulrich took place. “We want to take advantage of the unique opportunity to shape and develop: not only our group of companies and the technologies in our industries, but also coexistence in the region and society.” Markus Handtmann added: “Together we want to go into the next 150 years with you start."
On behalf of the entire management team, Harald Suchanka, Chairman of the Handtmann Filling and Portioning Systems Division, gave the laudatory speech on the anniversary evening together with Wolfgang Schmidt from the metal casting plant. “Together we can celebrate 150 years of Handtmann. We are celebrating 150 years of family business, 150 years full of innovations but also challenges overcome. But we are also celebrating one thing above all: 150 years of growth and success.” The 2022 financial year was one of the most successful in the company's history, in which "the incredible sound barrier of one billion euros was broken" and at the same time asked the question: "How is such a success story possible?" This is primarily due to Thomas Handtmann. “For us as a young management team, what we value most is your way of giving us and the responsible committees enough freedom to shape things. You trust us – and your good gut feeling to make decisions instinctively.” On behalf of all Handtmann employees, he thanked him for his 25 years of value-based company management and wished him continued success and good health in his new responsibility as chairman of the advisory board. At the same time, he emphasized that the foundation of a successful company is its employees and thanked them warmly, also on behalf of his fellow managing directors: “Without all of you, such great business development would not have been possible.”
Looking to the future, he went on to say that entrepreneurial success requires a good instinct, a lot of skill, a certain willingness to take risks and always a little bit of luck. But a family business needs one thing above all – something that is no longer a given today: a successor. “It is very fortunate that the Handtmann family’s strong sense of family has meant that the company management remains securely in family hands and Markus Handtmann and Valentin Ulrich are the fifth generation to take on this great responsibility” and he concluded with the words: “All of us Thank you, dear Valentin and Markus, for leading the family business and with it the large international Handtmann family into the future. We are convinced that together we will continue the success story. The international Handtmann family is proud to be part of your family and we are We look forward to a successful future together.”
