Meat traceable from the serving counter

For the first time for the meat counter: traceability F-Trace increases efficiency, transparency and legal certainty. System coordinated with Federal Agency for Agriculture and Development (BLE). Reta Award: EHI Retail Institute honors Edeka for traceability and digitization with F-Trace. Cologne, 28. February 2018. What is already possible for packaged meat, fish and mixed products such as cereals now also works for the meat counter for the first time: traders and consumers can use the F-Trace traceability service to trace the individual stations of the goods back to their origin. Dealers comply with all legal requirements and can easily check at any time whether all data is complete and correct. For example, Regulation 1337 / 2013 requires information on the origin of meat, as well as the place where animals are raised and slaughtered. All relevant information is stored in the web-based system for at least two years and can, for example, also be retrieved, printed out and checked by means of official food controls. This is also confirmed by the Federal Institute for Agriculture and Food (BLE).

More efficiency at the counter: tablet instead of file folders
Further work processes around the service counter can also be digitized and optimized with F-Trace, from unpacking and documenting in the market to further processing up to sales. With the help of scanners and labels as well as via tablet, employees can record all stations and processing steps of a product electronically - such as disassembling for the display in the service counter. Even the today still common Auspackliste on paper is eliminated. The consequences: a lower error rate as well as a second profit, which can, for example, benefit the customer service. That creates satisfaction. And trust can also be increased with F-Trace: for the first time, consumers have the opportunity to obtain information about the goods offered and their origin directly from the counter at the bar. Alternatively, they retrieve the data via smartphone app or at home on the computer.

Excellent: Reta Award for Edeka with F-Trace
The first trader to use F-Trace for meat products in the counter is Edeka. For digitization and traceability with F-Trace, the EHI Retail Institute yesterday awarded the grocery retailer the Retail Technology Award Europe (Reta) in the Best Instore Solution category. In selected test markets, Edeka has digitized and optimized its counter processes for the traceability of fresh meat and fish products with F-Trace.

Mark Zeller, F-Trace's Chief Operating Officer, said: "We are pleased that the launch of F-Trace at Edeka has been so successful. This award is also an honor for F-Trace as a pioneer for a consumer-oriented and trend-setting value chain. "In the future, F-Trace plans to implement delicatessen products such as salads and convenience products prepared on the market as well as further internationalization.

Background: This is how F-Trace works
F-Trace is a neutral, cloud-based platform for batch tracking of products such as meat, fish and mixed products. The system combines real-time static product data with dynamic information about individual processing steps in a supply chain. These include, for example, the harvest date, the method of fishing or the country of processing. Each actor feeds his own specific data into the system. This makes the history of a product comprehensible at all times. The entry is made according to defined criteria and based on standardized standard interfaces. F-Trace ensures that mandatory information is provided and correct. A sophisticated rights management system prevents unwanted data access. The service is based on global GS1 standards and is internationally applicable. Further information can be found on www.ftrace.de.
